About the Saint

Born: March 27, 1416, in Paola, Calabria, Italy.

St. Francis was born into a poor farming family and showed great devotion to God from a young age. As a teenager, he chose to live as a hermit dedicated to prayer and service.

He founded the Order of Minims, a religious order focused on humility, fasting, and charity, which spread throughout Europe.

He died on April 2, 1507, in Plessis-les-Tours, France.

Why I Chose This Saint

I chose St. Francis of Paola because of his amazing humility and faith. His dedication to helping others and his miracles inspire me to be more loving and patient in my own life.

He showed many gifts of the Holy Spirit such as faith, healing, and humility. I hope to follow his example by being more charitable and practicing self-control.

What Made St. Francis Special

St. Francis was known for his deep faith, humility, and miraculous deeds, including healing the sick and calming storms at sea.

He practiced extreme fasting and charity, showing the fruits of self-control and love.

He founded the Order of Minims, which continues his mission of humility and service.

Canonization and Feast Day

He was canonized by Pope Leo X in 1519, 12 years after his death.

His feast day is celebrated every year on April 2nd.

Extra Information

St. Francis of Paola is the patron saint of sailors and boatmen because of stories about him calming storms. He is also said to have traveled across the sea on his cloak as a miracle.
